Over the years, Takamine 12-string guitars have graced many styles of music, from folk, to pop, to rock and beyond. One key adoption over the last few decades has been our 12-string guitar's role in many styles of regional Mexican music. In this case, the musician often will string the guitar with two sets of six strings, as opposed to a standard 12-string set which has pairs that are an octave apart for the lowest four string pairs. As one can imagine, this puts a bit of stress on a guitar that is not ultimately designed for this type of stringing. The solution... Takamine's brand new 12-string, purpose-built for this demanding style: the GD74CE-12U (the "U" is for unison).
The guitar has a reinforced spruce top that is double-x braced to handle the additional string load, while projecting with clarity and sweetness via a flame maple body. The neck is also made of maple for additional structural rigidity. It is artfully appointed with specialized wood binding, purfling, and rosette that echos the roots of the music it was designed to create. The classic "reverse mountain" inlay at the 12th fret and striking pearloid pickguard complement the look of this guitar. The GD74CE-12U's sound is growly, brash, melodic, and sparkling at the same time. This sound can be brought to any stage easily with its powerful TP-3G electronics. Additionally, this guitar comes with a gig-bag to transport it to your next show or jam session with ease.
